Professional Experience

Providing scholars with the tools to empower themselves to champion open scholarship practices that increase the openness, integrity, and trustworthiness of research.

• Directly trained over 350 graduate students, researchers, research support staff, and librarians from over 25 universities and organizations, including Focused Ultrasound Foundation and the American Heart Association
• Drives training, education, and evaluation activities in funder-related projects and facilitates other cross-team initiatives and committees to meet funder and COS objectives
• Updated 4 original training modules and developed 4 new modules to ensure coverage of open scholarship practices most directly aligned with COS mission
• Creates strategic priorities and success metrics for training and education initiatives, both internally and within training portions of grant initiatives
• Collaborates with the research and policy teams to identify, design, prioritize, and implement evaluation opportunities, and to understand and effectively act upon evaluation results
• Builds community around open scholarship adoption and practice; spearheaded partnership development with the African Reproducibility Network (AREN)
• Collaborates with internal and external partners, like the Coordinated Network of Networks for Enhancing Collaborative Teams (CONNECT), to develop self-paced learning courses using learning management system

Provide effective design and comprehensive, accurate and actionable feedback to help programs achieve their goals.

• Worked closely with internal and external team members on 4-6 simultaneous grant-funded projects in health and healthcare delivery, workforce development and training, implementation research and quality improvement, community health and equity, and education.
• Ensured all data was collected and managed according to established data security, ethics, and quality protocols
• Collected data using a variety of methods such as surveys, interviews, focus groups, and administrative records
• Analyzed primary and secondary data to produce concise and actionable reports, presentations, and sections of academic manuscripts, depending on client needs
• Assisted with project management activities such as IRB applications, logic model development, and translating program evaluation plans into operational work plans

Develop and deliver high quality education for undergraduate and masters students at a regional four year-university.

• Designed, updated, and taught 4 online and in-person undergraduate and graduate classes a semester on topics including introduction to psychology, research methods and statistics, media psychology, qualitative methods (first person to teach this in the dept), community psychology, and effective communication (first to teach course)
• Networked with faculty across the globe for guest lectures so students would have exposure to psychologists from a wide range of backgrounds, including demographic characteristics, geographic region, area of study, and applied vs. basic research area
• Advised 40-50 students a semester on courses, career planning, and graduate school
• Led and collaborated on research projects on online and gaming communities, aging, and distributed collaborative research networks, and open qualitative research practices 
• Served as a thesis advisor for a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies student at USI, a committee member for a Masters student at Avila University, and supervisor for three undergraduate students as Online Technologies Lab members
• Discussed research activities and expertise with media outlets, including Vox and Buzzfeed

Helping organizations use the best methods to ask the right questions and find feasible action steps.

• ​Designed and implemented a mixed methods needs assessment for students and faculty on LGBTQA topics, including stakeholders in the process. 
• Designed and implemented a mixed-methods process evaluation of the organization’s “Queer Peer” mentoring program, including stakeholders in the analysis process.
• Reevaluated data collected by a previous consultant assessing their national retreat program for adult homelessness. 
• Provided guidance on needs assessment to a group of international students at a large urban public university system advocating for improved culture in and services from their office of international services. 

Provide an academic bridge between the university and community that supports student learning, community development and faculty teaching and scholarship.

• Updated and streamlined documentation for research and evaluation coordinator role
• Collaborated across departments to streamline data collection process for student evaluations 
• Created quarterly reports using satisfaction and evaluation data from students in service-learning courses, professors teaching service-learning courses, and community organizations with service-learning courses
• Led team-wide trainings (approximately 15-30 people) on topics including but not limited to developing a mission and vision statement, logic modeling, and creating effective evaluations

Studying the scientific study of mind and behavior across the entire range of the human experience and contexts.

• Led a qualitative focus group project on differences in exercise motivations among older and younger adults under NSF Grant #1536260: The Role of Affect in Decisions Involving Risk Across the Adult Life Span
• Led an experimental project to examine how video game players shift their self-perception to align with avatars through game design choices that affect player ownership and agency
• Co-led an experimental project investigating perceptual decision-making processes through a combination of empirical research and mathematical/computational modeling. Tested the effects of distractions (texting, asking Siri questions, etc.) on response time and accuracy of go/no-go-type tasks. 
• Supported an asset-mapping project to measure and document existing resources and areas of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender inclusivity in Evansville, IN area
• Supported projects studying structural and sociocultural influences on coping and health behaviors and contribute to the development, evaluation, implementation, and dissemination of culturally responsive behavioral health interventions
• Assisted with a qualitative project on empowerment in low-income people with a variety of physical, psychiatric, and intellectual disabilities on the initiation of government-funded, managed health care, as part of a larger project with the Illinois Department of Public Health
• Across several labs, served as a mentor to undergraduate and graduate students regarding their teaching and research responsibilities
